Detroit Lions: Five reasons why Glover Quin a solid acquisition

(Until training camp starts at the end of July, Lions Lowdown will post blogs five times a week using the list format.)

Reggie Bush captured most of the attention, but the Lions' signing of safety Glover Quin might prove to be the key free agent move. Five reasons Quin was a good acquisition.

1. He’s durable which has to be one of the reasons he was so attractive to the Lions who have struggled with so many defensive back injuries the last few years. Quin started every game for the Houston Texans the last three seasons.

2. He’s multidimensional — he played cornerback in college at New Mexico. He can play nickel, dime, deep and man to man.

3. A young veteran, he has leadership qualities which the Lions find attractive too.

4. Statistics don’t tell the whole story but his are good. Last season he had 14 pass defenses, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a sack and 84 tackles. He has five interceptions in four NFL seasons.

5. Quin filled a huge need to play on the field with Louis Delmas who has been the opposite of durable. That safety spot has been a revolving door for the past few seasons.

What a hoot and where to start. Quin had 14 pass defenses last year. That means he broke up less than one a game. 84 tackles means he was late on a lot of coverages but managed to drag the receiver down eventually. There's no such thing as a forced fumble. Either the ball carrier has it secured, or they don't. Please stop with Delmas. He's the most overrated athlete in Detroit since Brandon Inge. Quin was multi-dimensional in college at New Mexico. Who cares? This is the NFL. That stuff doesn't work anymore. There was a reason Houston let him walk. Not good enough. Quin is just another castoff that couldn't play for a good team, but the Lions are desperate for whatever help they can get.

So you have to be anonymous to leave a commit it shows you are just a hater and scared to show your identity. Many people are happy with this pick up and just because you hate on the lions don't mean your thoughts are what everyone else thinks if you watch any of the mini camps or training camp videos they have shown what he is capable of. Please have a great day from a real lions fan.

Anonymous FWIW the 14 passes defensed would have him just outside the top 10 in the NFL. The number 10 DB (All of the top 10 are CB's) had 16 passes defensed last year.

The guy is a very solid DB and is well respected for his play, intelligence and leadership throughout the league.

Don't know why I am wasting my time typing as you are just doing what you can to irritate others.
