Zack Follett's career appears to be over

It appears Zack Follett’s career with the Lions is over.

Follett sent this tweet about 9:45 Tuesday night: Respect to Schwartz Mayhew Lewand didnt want to risk a life threatening injury after seeing my pain, Someone had to make the tough decision!

Then about 45 minutes later he tweeted this: Much as I fought to give it a go just wasnt in His plan. No longer a Lion. God has me filled with plenty of Joy #Godbetheglory Thanks!

Follett didn’t practice on Tuesday when the team was in full pads for the first time. He said the coaches were looking out for him and didn’t want to say much more.

When coach Jim Schwartz was asked why Follett didn’t practice he said it was just day-to-day stuff.

Follett severely injured his neck in the sixth game last season. He was carted off the field at the New Meadowlands and hospitalized.

He was hoping to make a comeback and had started working out about halfway through the lockout. He said the risks he was taking were the same as any player. But one wrong hit and he could have been paralyzed.

a tough special teams player, Follett is a fan favorite.
