Lions release FB Jerome Felton, Vanden Bosch back at practice

ALLEN PARK — Fullback Jerome Felton was released by the Lions on Tuesday.

Felton, who had played 41 games for the Lions over the past three seasons, did not seem to be a fit with the offense. The roster has been cut to 80 for today’s deadline. On Saturday the final cut to 53 will be made.

The Lions are likely looking at keeping the following running backs: Jahvid Best, Maurice Morris, Aaron Brown and Jerome Harrison.

Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch was back at practice Tuesday morning for the first time since injuring his shoulder in the preseason game at Cleveland.

The Lions play on Thursday at Buffalo, but it’s unclear if Vanden Bosch or any of the starters will get playing time.

Offensive lineman Jason Fox (foot) still is not practicing but he is out of the orthopedic boot so another step closer to a return.

WR Nate Burleson was out for the second straight day. He needed stitches in his right elbow after Saturday’s game. A hit on the elbow opened up an incision from offseason surgery to remove a bursa sac.

CB Alphonso Smith (foot) still is not practicing.
