Final roster cuts due Saturday, here's my projection

The final cuts to get the Lions’ roster to 53 will be made on Saturday.

A lot of hand-wringing occurs about the guys knee-deep on the depth chart, but keep in mind that the roster will not be set in stone. Martin Mayhew will tinker with it throughout the season, starting Sunday by possibly picking up players who have been cut from other teams.

Here are my projections, let me know what you think.

Defensive line — Ndamukong Suh, Cliff Avril, Corey Williams, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Lawrence Jackson, Willie Young, Nick Fairley, Sammie Hill, Andre Fluellen.

Linebackers — DeAndre Levy, Justin Durant, Stephen Tulloch, Bobby Carpenter, Ashlee Palmer, Isaiah Ekejuiba, Doug Hogue.

Defensive backs — Chris Houston, Eric Wright, Brandon McDonald, Alphonso Smith, Aaron Berry, Louis Delmas, Amari Spievey, Erik Coleman, John Wendling.

Offensive line — Jeff Backus, Rob Sims, Dominic Raiola, Stephen Peterman, Gosder Cherilus, Corey Hilliard, Jason Fox, Dylan Gandy, Rudy Niswanger.

Tight ends — Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Scheffler, Will Heller.

Quarterbacks — Matthew Stafford, Shaun Hill, Drew Stanton

Wide receivers — Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson, Titus Young, Maurice Stovall, Rashied Davis

Running backs — Jahvid Best, Maurice Morris, Aaron Brown, Jerome Harrison

Kicker — Jason Hanson

Punter — Nick Harris

Returner — Stefan Logan

Long snapper — Don Muhlbach

For the most part I agree. I think Ricardo Silva may make it over Wendling with the kickoff change rule and the health questions for John.

Also maybe Donald Thomas over Niswanger.

Watching the replays Gerberry and Niswanger have looked very good, but Thomas has the resume'...

I think Gerberry and Thomas make it over Gandy and Niswanger

I agree with the observations here. Harris will get beat out for punter, Silva will beat out Wendling because he is a playmaker. As for the offensive line, they hasn't been enough coverage of that or footage for me to decide, but I do know they had a lot of people brought so they were certainly looking for more people to fill a slot.

Gerberry and Thomas easily over Gandy and to a lesser extent Niswanger. Everything else seems right on. Think Donahue makes it over Harris.
