Vanden Bosch pleased with first Lions' workout

With the NFL in lockout mode, about 30 of the Detroit Lions worked out on their own on Monday at a local high school. It was an offensive-heavy group with players like Matthew Stafford, Jahvid Best, rookie Titus Young and the whole offensive line in attendance — among others.

Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, a team captain, helped organize the workout, the first of four this week.

“It’s so much different when you’re with a big group of teammates and you can push each other. I think we’re going to get more and more guys as the week goes along,’’ Vanden Bosch said. “It’s difficult to gauge what benefit we get from this, but it’s good to see the guys are willing to come in, put the team first and really be accountable to each other.’’

Wide receivers Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson are expected in for Tuesday’s workout session.

The consensus among those in attendance was that it was good to see everybody and easier to work out in a group setting.

“Today was kind of a feeling-out process, wanted to see where guys are at. Guys seem to be in good shape like they’ve been working out. ...’’ Vanden Bosch said. “I didn’t know what to expect coming in, but I couldn’t be happier with how things went today. They seemed to go really smoothly.’’

More on the Lions workout to come today, including a look at Matthew Stafford (whose shoulder looked fine) and rookie WR Titus Young who is looking to restore the roar.
