Lions waste no time, boost defensive line

ALLEN PARK — While the Lions had their share of weaknesses last season, one clear area of concern was the defensive line.

The team has wasted on time on the first day of free agency, trying to rectify the situation.

Veteran defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch told a Nashville radio station this morning that he had agreed to a four-year deal with the Lions. This was not a surprise. Vanden Bosch played for coach Jim Schwartz while Schwartz was the defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans.

Also the Lions are making a trade for defensive tackle Corey Williams with the Cleveland Browns. Detroit is expected to give up a low draft pick in exchange.

The acquisition of Williams will give the Lions some flexibility with the No. 2 draft pick. Defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy are considered to be the top two players available in the draft.

The Lions have also acquired wide receiver Nate Burleson who has a history with Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. They were looking for a receiver to help take the pressure off Calvin Johnson. It appears they got him.
