Lions unlikely to bring Larry Foote back

It’s all but a done deal that LB Larry Foote will not return to the Lions.

Coach Jim Schwartz hinted at that in his Friday press conference when asked if Foote was done in Detroit. He said: “I don’t know exactly where that is and where he is. I think we’re very happy with where we are at linebacker. DeAndre Levy was a guy we drafted with a very particular skill set in mind and we thought he could go fill that. He had an opportunity to play due to Larry’s injury at the end of the year. We were very pleased with what he did. I think we’re in good position there.’’

The Lions also have Julian Peterson and Ernie Sims under contract.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the 29-year-old Foote will visit the Steelers on Monday. Foote, who grew up in Detroit and played at Michigan, spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Steelers. Foote has also visited the Arizona Cardinals and the Washington Redskins.

Foote signed a one-year deal to play in his hometown for the 2009 season. He was not guaranteed a starting role, but fought for it and started the first 14 games until his foot injury kept him out.
