Cornerback Phillip Buchanon was cut by the Lions on Thursday.
Buchanon, a first-round draft pick by Oakland in 2002, was signed by the Lions as a free agent a year ago. He started 11 of the 13 games he played in for the Lions in 2009.
Like many of the defensive backs last season, Buchanon was benched for subpar play, but got back on the field.
